Bilberry is a small deciduous shrub that grows throughout the temperate and subarctic regions of the world. The shrub is part of the same family as the Blueberry, Blackberry and Grape. Bilberry Extract has been used for many years to improve eyesight. It is thought that the flavonoid  ‘anthocyanoside’ which is abundant in Bilberries, helps to improve blood flow and the delivery of oxygen to the eyes . Anthocyanoside is also thought to regenerate Rhodopsin, the purple pigment in the retina that is required for good night vision.

During the Second World War, RAF pilots noticed a marked improvement in their night vision after eating Bilberry jam!
